Most people take screenshots every day: a bug to report, a design to review, a receipt to keep, a long web page to share with a colleague. Chrome's built-in options are limited, though, and many screenshot extensions ask you to create an account or upload your images to someone else's server first. SnapCapture Pro takes a different approach.
SnapCapture Pro is a fast, private screenshot tool for Chrome, developed by SOFTCITY. It lets you capture exactly what you need, mark it up in a built-in editor, and save it in the format you want, without accounts, uploads or an internet connection. This guide covers what it does, how each feature works, how it handles your data, and how to install it.
What is SnapCapture Pro?
SnapCapture Pro is a Chrome screenshot extension in the Productivity category, built and published by SOFTCITY. In one sentence: it captures visible, full-page, area and element screenshots, lets you annotate, blur and crop them, and exports to PNG, JPG, WebP or PDF, 100% offline.
Capturing, editing and saving all happen inside your browser. Nothing is sent to the cloud, and you don't need to sign up. That makes it a genuinely offline screenshot tool, not just a web service with a browser button.
Four ways to capture your screen
A good screen capture extension should let you grab exactly the part of a page you need. SnapCapture Pro has four capture modes.
Visible screen
Captures what you see in one click. It's the quickest option when everything you need is already in the browser window.
Full page
This is where a full-page screenshot in Chrome becomes easy. SnapCapture Pro scrolls through the page and stitches it into one image, including long landing pages, blogs, stores and dashboards. Sticky headers appear only once, so the header doesn't repeat down the finished image.
Area
Drag to select any part of the screen. A live size label shows the dimensions of your selection as you drag.
Element
Hover over a page element to highlight it, such as a card, banner, table, form or chart, then click to capture just that element. You get a tidy capture without having to crop it by hand afterwards.
A built-in editor for annotating screenshots
Once you have your screenshot, you can mark it up without opening a separate image editor. The editor includes:
- Crop: free, square, 16:9 and 4:3
- Drawing tools: pencil, brush and marker
- Shapes: rectangle, circle, line and arrow
- Text, with a choice of font, size and colour
- A highlighter with adjustable transparency
- Blur or pixelate, to hide emails, phone numbers, addresses and other private details
- Unlimited undo and redo, plus zoom and copy to clipboard
The blur and pixelate tools matter most when you share screenshots. You can hide personal details before the image leaves your computer, and because editing happens in the browser, the unredacted original isn't uploaded anywhere along the way.
Export formats: PNG, JPG, WebP and PDF
SnapCapture Pro lets you save each screenshot in the format that suits it:
- PNG: lossless quality
- JPG and WebP: choose 100%, 90%, 80%, 70% or 50% quality
- PDF: A4, Letter or Legal, in portrait or landscape. Long pages are split across pages automatically.
You can also rename files before saving. By default, file names include the date and time, for example Screenshot_2026-09-27_10-15-30.png, so your captures stay in order.
Screenshot history and settings
Every capture appears in a screenshot history with a thumbnail, date, time, format and file size. From there you can open a screenshot, download it again or delete it.
The settings page lets you choose:
- Default format, quality and PDF options
- Auto-download, and "ask where to save"
- Light, dark and system themes
Keyboard shortcuts
If you take a lot of screenshots, keyboard shortcuts save time. SnapCapture Pro includes three by default:
- Ctrl + Shift + S: capture the visible screen
- Ctrl + Shift + F: capture the full page
- Ctrl + Shift + E: capture an element
Area capture has no default shortcut, but you can set one yourself at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Private by design: how SnapCapture Pro handles your data
Privacy is at the core of SnapCapture Pro, not an add-on. It has no tracking, no analytics, no cloud uploads and no sign-up. Every screenshot stays in your browser.
No data collection
SnapCapture Pro does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. It has no accounts, analytics, tracking, advertising or cloud servers.
How your screenshots are stored
- Screenshots are created and edited entirely inside your browser.
- Your settings and screenshot history are stored only on your device, in Chrome's local storage and IndexedDB. They never leave your computer.
- Files are saved to your computer only when you choose to download them.
You stay in control
You can delete any screenshot, or clear your whole history, at any time from the History or Settings page. Removing the extension deletes all of its stored data.
No third parties
The extension does not use any third-party services, libraries that send data, or remote code.
Permissions explained in plain words
Before you install any browser screenshot tool, check what it's allowed to do. SnapCapture Pro requests five Chrome permissions, each for a stated reason:
- activeTab: captures the tab you are viewing, only when you start a capture.
- tabs: reads the page title and address to label your screenshots.
- scripting: shows the area and element selection tools, and scrolls the page for full-page captures.
- storage: saves your settings and history on your device.
- downloads: saves screenshots to your computer.
How to install SnapCapture Pro
Chrome only offers one-click installs for extensions in its own store, so SnapCapture Pro is installed from a ZIP file. It takes about a minute, and you only do it once:
- Step 1: Click Download ZIP on the SnapCapture Pro page.
- Step 2: Right-click the downloaded file and choose Extract All.
- Step 3: Open chrome://extensions in Chrome. Paste it into the address bar, because websites cannot link to it directly.
- Step 4: Turn on Developer mode (top-right).
- Step 5: Click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder, the one that contains manifest.json.
- Step 6: Pin the extension from the puzzle icon in the toolbar.
Updates are not automatic. To update, download the new version and click Reload on chrome://extensions.
